Kristina Arnold; "Snow White Turns 40;" Cast Glass, Cast Sugar, Wood, Brass
In the fairy tale "Snow White," no one roots for the step mother. She is evil, and the fair Snow White triumphs. In this work I ask us to consider what happens when Snow White ages and due to passing years is herself no longer the "fairest of them all." I ask us to take responsibility for our complicity in perpetuating the beauty myth, a fairy tale that ties value so completely to youth and an impossible perfectionist ideal. For one day, Snow White will find herself in her step mother's shoes. And in an increasingly connected and media-savvy world, she will need more than one mirror and one apple to maintain her position.

Kristina I love this piece. I think it is beautiful. As an adult when watching shows based on Snow White and even going back to watch the Disney movie I have asked myself that question. What will Snow White do when/if she loses he beauty. I love this concept!!! The apples are also very appealing to me. I am sure it is because of their bright red color next to all the white. Again beautiful.
