 Ashton Callis, "Time Tangle," yarn

Artist statement: This piece divides the courtyard and was created a space around the fountain for the viewer to inhabit. The name references the fact that the fountain serves as a clock, and illustrates the way in which things overlap each other.

  1. Purely speaking from seeing the images, I think the most interesting part about this piece for me is the shapes that you are creating through the yarn. Where you have placed your piece the architecture is very square and rectangular, and the fountain a circle, and it almost looks as if you mimicked the triangular design of the tiles in the fountain through the yarn. I think the placement of this piece seems quite at home among the other geometric shapes in this environment and through the continuation of the colors from the fountain.

  2. This is one of my favorite pieces from this assignment. Considering how large and overwhelming this space could be, I think it is activated quite well. As Leslea stated, the shapes create a nice repetition and unity between the strongly rectangular building and the triangles of the tile. I would be curious to see this in person because judging from the images I would like to see the lines of the piece more apparent and emphasized (however this may be more visible in person).
