Allison Salmon; "Blue and Mint, 'Stretch';" Nylons, cord, staircase

Through the use of Nylon and string, I want to allow the use of this space to guide you through the stairwell. Breaking into the cracks and space between, I allow my material to fill and alter that which is open. I see this as a large drawing that has inhabited the inner workings of the stair well. Each nylon is being pulled and stretched into place, while also using the structure of the stairwell as its anchor. As an artist I so often explore with these materials, and in the use of this space it has provided for me a way to expand, as well as explore in a larger form. Activating this space I aim to help the use of the stairs be more exciting, also in doing so, I hope that more will be willing to use the stairwell rather than the suspicious elevator.

I like how connected this piece makes the stairwell feel. The pulling and stretching illuminated the physicality of the space.

Feminity and tension and maybe how women are expected to enjoy fashion and caring about appearances, which can be fun but not when it is forced or taken to extremes. I guess there are good extremes and bad extremes.

The use of the patterned nylons lend gradients to the color changes as you move throughout the staircase.
