Ashton Callis; "Untitled;" Yarn, glass, hoop

In this installation my goal was to choose a material that would allow me to create a piece that amplified the space it occupies. This piece is a reference to native American dream catchers through the style which I used in placing the yarn. This piece will create a feeling of calm in the nature it occupies. The colors displayed in the yarn both amplified the trees and complimented the feeling I would like the viewers to have.

  1. I really like yours! It was hypnotizing when it was spun. You are amazing with string.

  2. The above comment suggests this piece spinning. I would love to see a video of it. Your statement states that this piece will help to create a feeling of calm in nature, however, the bright pink jars my vision and makes me slightly uncomfortable with its position in nature. I think that color is obviously important to this piece and do not understand what the feeling that I as a viewer am supposed to have because the pink does not calm the space for me. That being said, the composition of the piece is beautiful, and I enjoy the interaction between the tree and the piece.
