Kyle Obrock; "Singed Sketch;" Sketchbook paper, fire

My sketchbook is a place where exploration of my ideas takes place. I am working on the beginning stages of a future process-based installation piece, which involves open flame fires. For the soon to come piece, I needed to do tests on how fire reacts to paper and how quickly. I did a 1 minute timed burn, which created a portal with dark edges. I wanted to display the amount of papers that were burned, and how many pieces of paper it took until a clean sheet reappeared within that 1 minute period.

  1. "I was wondering if this was a timed process before I saw the statement, so I;m glad that you mentioned that. I feel like pages from your sketchbook are the perfect material for this as well since, as you said, the sketchbook is a place for experimentation and thoughts."

  2. Great record of process! I would like to see what it would look like on a larger scale.
