PROJECT 5
FINAL PROJECT
Andrea Stith; "Textile Test Tiles;" materials: mixed
This piece was inspired by my interest in textiles, color,
and experimentation. I opened my box of random textiles and art supplies up and
let my mind take things wherever it wanted to. This project was basically to
test different colors and textures to see what they can be used for. My
roommate and I have had this empty wall
in our apartment since we moved in. We have been talking about what could go
there for a while so I asked her if she would be interested in this project as
a sample of the different things we could put in the space. It has helped us
get to know each other’s' taste and hopefully now that we have worked on a
bunch of small projects together we could work together to make something for
this space. I really enjoyed playing with the different textiles and learning
new ways to use them. This project has been an ongoing experiment and will most
likely be something that I continue working with.

Knowing that this piece was to bring you and your roommate together makes me wonder if this brought you all closer together. I like the diversity between each little tile.
ReplyDeleteI feel like it did. We spent the time while we were making the pieces talking and just hanging out which we hadn't really done a whole lot this semester. We talked about the meaning of the pieces we were each making and discussed the textures and colors. I feel like she may have learned more about me than I normally reveal because this was my element something I enjoy and love talking about.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of using an experimental project to get to know someone and having that be the decoration for your apartment, as opposed to having a bunch of photos or keepsakes from your separate lives clashing in the same space. Also it makes your attempts to coexist as two complete strangers trying to get to know one another much more meaningful and free of contrivance.
ReplyDeleteBtw this is Sarah Travis.
