Class Project 3; Group Projects
'Bonil' Drawings

This was a good example of / experience with a “real life” project – one in which an artist (us) has a client (in this case the WKU Modern Languages Department and the WKU “Tracing the Unexplored” committee). The task was to create an exhibit of and inspired by Bonil’s work in FAC. Then we had the added wrinkle of making sure the artist (Bonil - not technically the client, but obviously important) also liked and was comfortable with our interpretations of his pieces.

The fact that everyone was willing to trust in this unwieldy process, and in their fellow colleagues / artists, enabled us to work well together and create some really interesting and thought-provoking projects. We all know how hard working in groups is, so the students deserve kudos to no-one having an undies-in-a-bunch fit as we embarked on creating “something” that “had to do with Bonil’s drawings.”

The artist Bonil (Xavier Bonilla) posing with a student installation based on his work.

Bonil discusses his work and ideas standing in front of a second student installation based on his political cartoons. WKU Spanish professor Dr. Kelly Conroy and her students interpreted for our class.

Bonil couldn't resist drawing for the class as he discussed his experiences.
