Project 5: Body: Millie Walt

Body Image

When I think about the body, my mind immediately goes towards self image. In today’s society we are so concerned with the outward appearance and materialistic things that what is on the inside has little to no importance anymore. With these mirrors I have mimicked a dressing room. Self image is a major struggle of mine and when I feel my worst is always in the dressing room. Whether it be the way the clothes fit, the lighting, or the way the mirrors are tilted, something always makes me feel bad about how I look. I can’t look at myself in a mirror without finding something that is wrong with me and trying to find a way to change that. I have turned this “dressing room” into a more positive atmosphere. Three mirrors represent what the world wants us to see. But they are broken and fogged over because none of that matters. It is not what we should be concerned about. The other two are filled with encouraging phrases and attributes. Everyone is truly beautiful in their own ways and everyone has a story. Judging people based on their outward appearance is so shallow. So take a step into my dressing room and look at yourself with a positive view.
